Lychs are amung the most phearsom fends to prowle the nite. Only by shattring thayr phylacteries kann they be overkome.
-- Abidan Ghayth, Many Years from the West, Age of Wandering Kings

Liches are arcane spellcasters who have chosen to prolong their existance on the natural plane by use of their magic in order to continue their research and projects. Through a complex ritual, they remove their souls and place them in a "soul jar" or "phylactery". Immediately after, they become corpselike, withered, and skeletal. Any illusion of life they had formerly is now gone.

Over the years, the strain of having their bodies and minds separated from their souls drives them insane. They begin to concoct more and more evil plans which will have completion dates years from the present. They are not above experimenting on humans, destroying the landscape, or sacrificing countless sentient lives in their pursuit for the ultimate power.

Strengths: Liches have a huge reppetoirre of arcane spells, often encompassing many differing schools and many strong spells. They are masters of offensive and defensive spells, and have many available at their fingertips. They are invincible and cannot be harmed until their phylactery is found and destroyed.

Weaknesses: Over the years, a lich becomes insane and self-serving. Their judgement clouded, they are at once more random and more easily destroyed. They often keep their phylacteries in easily-recognizeable places, and rarely use anything stronger than glass.

Means of Destruction: Once the phylactery is destroyed, the lich itself will crumble to dust immediately, and all spells it had cast will cease.

Other Notes: A lich may be identified by its withered appearance and near-obsession with finery and luxories. A wayward hunter of the undead may find a great many treasures in its hoard, but also a number of which possess strong, often fatal hexes and curses.

As a rule, the furniture and window treatments are safe.
