The vampir stalks the nite alon or in packs, seking eesy quary to fed its lust for blud.
-- Abidan Ghayth, Many Years from the West, Age of Wandering Kings

Vampires are renowned for their unearthly, haunting beauty, captivating eyes, and craving for human blood. They are generally pale, growing closer to snow white the older they become. Vampires are supernatural creatures, the origins of which may be in a pact with the devil. They have very specific strengths and weaknesses that are detailed further below.

Besides being pale, they are easily recognized in other conditions. Noteably, they cast no reflection or shadow. They cannot abide blessed or holy objects, crosses, roses, thorns, or garlic. They cannot cross running water unless they are ferried by a human, which may or may not be charmed. They cannot enter any structure a creature has declared a home unless they are invited by that creature. They are self-serving creatures, and their clan is a distant second to themselves in their priorities.

It should be noted that vampires are already dead and inherantly damned creatures. The only time they may set foot on the holy ground of a churchyard is when they are first arising from the grave. After this time, they must move their coffins to another lair before sunrise, and return to their coffin each night. If they leave their homeland, they must bring along three boxes of their home soil, or they will wither and die.

A vampire feeds on the fresh blood of humans. No other blood is sustainable for them, and they must feed at least once nightly. They may choose to kill a human by drinking all of their blood, or leave them with only some blood loss. Should they choose to kill a human, the human may drink of their blood, and turn into a vampire themselves. This is ill-considered and unadviseable, as the poor devils maintain little of their former humanity once they turn.

Vampires grow stronger the longer they live, and after two hundred years are considered a relatively dangerous threat. To face one alone is almost certain death for most Hunters, though none older than five hundred have been spotted in recent years.

When they die, they leave behind a pile of ashes and a pair of fangs, which are easily reduced to ashes by crushing them beneath silver.

Strengths: Vampires are supernatural creatures. As such, they have supernatural strength, speed, and agility. They can jump high enough that it appears they are flying, though they are not able to actually fly. Should they establish eye-contact, they can charm a human into performing its will until daybreak. They regenerate damaged tissue very quickly, often before daybreak, though much faster if the wound was inflicted with a normal object than a holy object, a silver object, or a wooden object. Unlike liches and zombies, vampires do not lose their former intelligence in any way, shape, or form. Instead, they begin to learn over the years how things are done, and how to avoid being killed easily. They also have the magic powers of angst, which are used to make themselves feel better and their peers suffer, if nothing else.

Weaknesses: Vampires are fatally affected by decapitation, being lit on fire, or brain trauma caused by wood or silver. A stake of either wood or silver will also reduce it to ashes, though hardwood is much more effictive than soft. They cannot cross running water or pass thorns of any kind. It must count things and untie knots should it come across them, though this is rarely an effective way to deviate it from its course, as vampires can count and untie things really fast. They must return to their coffins every night, and if the coffin is hidden, then it will roam into daylight in search of it, killing itself. They become very weak if they do not feed nightly. Infighting between clans keeps most of the vampire population in check.

Means of Destruction: A silver or wooden object driven into the vampire's heart or head will kill a vampire. So will sunlight, holy water, any blessed object or weapon to a vital area, and total immolation by flames. Decapitation by any device will kill a vampire.

Other Notes: Vampires usually exist in clans. They are social, if cruel and heartless, creatures. It is noted that where there is one, there are usually at least three others in the area.

Vampires like to affect a sense of wealth and decorum. They will impersonate nobility and gather great collections of expensive items to impress each other, or potential victims. They are likely to flee if they find a challenge they cannot make, and will gloat regardless of whether they are winning or losing. Because they're dellusional, confused little things.
